Middle School Community Service Project – Making a Global Difference!
A KPS Middle School Community Service project will make a significant difference in the life of a fellow Middle School student in Nairobi, Kenya. Working with an organization called Eliminate Poverty Now (EPN), a non-profit that “invests in education” for adults and children in Africa as a way of eliminating extreme poverty, the Middle School girls have raised and donated $1000 to EPN. This will pay for one year of high school. They hope to raise even more! Through this fundraising effort a young Kenyan woman, who otherwise could not go to high school, will have that opportunity.
KPS’s history with East Africa dates back to 2008 when we made our first trip to Kenya. Since that time we have made multiple service learning trips to Kenya and Tanzania, all of which involved service learning projects in schools. KPS is committed to Global Education. The mission of the Global Program at KPS is to empower young women as leaders who understand, evaluate and take action in response to the challenges and opportunities of an inter-connected world. To accomplish this, we have defined four key components – global curriculum, travel, partnerships, and community service–that will shape the growth of the exciting global initiatives already underway on campus.
